Seven Beavers Earn Pac-12 Honors

Jun 3, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – Catcher Troy Claunch, left-handed pitcher Jake Mulholland and right-handed pitcher Will Frisch have been named First-Team All-Pac-12, the conference announced on Thursday. Right-handed pitchers Kevin Abel and Bryant Salgado as well as infielder/outfielder Jacob Melton and infielder Garret Forrester have also been named honorable mention.
All-conference selections were voted on by the Pac-12's coaches.
Oregon State has now had at least three first-team selections for eight consecutive years dating back to the 2013 season. The Beavers have had at least seven overall recognitions for four consecutive years.
Claunch is batting .321 entering the Fort Worth Regional, and carries a 17-game hit streak into Friday's matchup with Dallas Baptist. He has hit seven doubles with four home runs and 27 runs batted in en route to his first career Pac-12 honor.
Mulholland, meanwhile, has collected his fourth career Pac-12 postseason honor. He's a first-team selection for the second time, following 2019, after being named honorable mention in 2017 and 2018. He is tied for the Pac-12 lead with 13 saves, which place him tied for second nationally.
Frisch earns the first-team honor in his first full season at the collegiate level. He has appeared in 18 games, making six starts, and posts a 3-0 record with a 2.17 earned run average. Opponents are batting just .209 against him in 54 innings.
Abel's honor is the first of his career. The righty enters his start Friday with three wins and a 3.42 earned run average. He ended the regular season with 106 strikeouts, which is tied for the Pac-12 lead and is 10 shy of 10th all-time in a single season at Oregon State. He also has 239 career strikeouts, 10 shy of 10th at OSU.
Salgado has a team-best 0.36 earned run average in his first season with the Beavers. The right-hander, who hails from Houston, has held opponents to 13 hits and a .160 batting average in 25 innings pitched. He has 27 strikeouts this season.
Melton ended the season batting .404 with five doubles, three triples, six home runs, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases. He hit safely in 21 of the 32 games he played in, and he became the first Beaver with three home runs in the same game since 2001.
Forrester, also in his first season with the Beavers, carries a .272 batting average into the Fort Worth Regional opener. He has seven doubles, a triple, six home runs and 30 RBI in 47 games, 43 of which have been starts.
