OMAHA, Neb. – Two Golden Bears advanced to the finals session on the opening day of Wave I of the 2021 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials at the CHI Health Center. California will be represented by Colby Mefford in the 200-meter butterfly A Final and Matthew Jensen in the 100m freestyle B Final.
Mefford took fifth in the 200m fly prelims (2:00.15) and will get the chance to advance to Wave II of the U.S. Olympic Trials (June 13-20) with a top-two finish in Friday night's A Final. The sophomore was the fastest finisher in Heat 2 of prelims.
Jensen was the first Bear to dive in Friday morning, touching the wall in 50.74 seconds to win Heat 1 of the 100m free and eventually finish ninth overall in the prelims. He will be the top seed in the B Final.
Kyle Millis was the third and final Bear to compete in Friday's prelims, taking 27th in the 100m back with a time of 56.77.
