Pettway Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week

Jun 8, 2021

LOS ANGELES – Zach Pettway from UCLA Baseball has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, earning honors for June 1 – June 7.

With UCLA facing elimination, Pettway delivered one of the finest starts of his career to lead the Bruins to a 12-2 win over North Carolina (June 6) and a berth into the Lubbock Regional Final. Pettway turned in the first complete game performance of his collegiate career, limiting the Tar Heels to two runs while striking out nine. The Long Beach, Calif. native both started and finished strong, allowing only one hit his first time through the order and facing just one over the minimum from the fifth inning through the conclusion of the game.

Pettway's nine strikeouts were his second-most this season, and he issued one walk or fewer for the 10th time in 15 appearances this season. His standout effort landed him on the Lubbock Regional All-Tournament Team.

It's the first-career Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Pettway.
