Runnin' Utes and Hornets Set to Battle on Opening Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball program announced that it will play host to Sacramento State on Saturday, Nov. 13, of opening week inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
 
Fans can purchase season tickets for the upcoming 2021-22 Utah men's basketball season online or via phone by contacting the Utah Ticket Office at 801-581-8849.
 
This serves as the third meeting between the two programs with the previous two contest played in Salt Lake City. The all-time series is tied at 1-1 between the Runnin' Utes and Hornets with Utah winning the first meeting 74-45 back on Dec. 12, 1992, and Sacramento State winning the most recent meeting 74-71 on Nov. 16, 2012.
 
Utah first-year head coach Craig Smith is 2-0 in his career against the Hornets. Both wins came during his time at South Dakota with the first being a 96-90 road win during the 2015-16 campaign followed by a 72-56 victory in Vermillion, S.D., the following year (2016-17).
 
Sac State is under the direction of 14th-year head coach Brian Katz, who was at the helm when it defeated Utah back in 2012. The Hornets went 8-12 overall this past season and 5-9 in Big Sky play with 10 games canceled during the unprecedented COVID-19 season.
