This is Washington's second NCAA shot put title in 2021. The two-time USTFCCCA West Region Male Field Athlete of the Year previously won the indoor crown March 12 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Washington's win is ASU's sixth men's shot put title and first since 2012 when program record-holder Jordan Clarke went back-to-back in the event. Magdalyn Ewen and Samantha Noennig won women's shot put titles in 2018 and 2019, respectively. This marks the fifth outdoor throws crown since Brian Blutreich took over coaching throws in 2016.
