@ASUFootball’s Michael Turk Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District® VIII First Team

Jun 10, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State punter Michael Turk was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® VIII First Team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Turk, who has been named to the Pac-12's Fall Honor Roll each of the last two seasons, has a 3.59 GPA (Liberal Studies).

As a freshman at Lafayette in 2017, Turk set the single-season record for punting average (42.7 yards) and earned All-Patriot League second-team honors. After transferring to ASU, Turk burst onto the scene in a big way in 2019 as he was named both the Ray Guy Punter of the Week and Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after he broke the NCAA record for highest average yards per punt in a game with a minimum of five attempts (63.0) in ASU's season opening win over Kent State. Turk punted five times for 315 yards with boots of 64, 62, 65, 49 and 75 in his Sun Devil debut. He would go on to be named a semifinalist for the Ray Guy award.

In 2020, Turk was one of only three players to earn All-Pac-12 first-team honors for the second straight season after he led the conference in every major statistical punting category, including allowing only 28 total yards on punt returns. The Dallas native boomed five punts over 50 yards and had a long of 58 yards. He was sixth in the country in yards per punt attempt this season at 47.2

As a first-team Academic All-District® honoree, Turk now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
