Joyner Earns Second Team All-America Honors

Jun 11, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – Iffy Joyner posted a top throw of 55.72 meters (182-10) to grab second team All-America honors in the discus throw at the NCAA Championships Friday at Hayward Field.

Joyner recorded his best throw on his first attempt, using a lean to stay inside the circle and keep it a fair throw. The Pittsburg native stood in ninth-place after the first round in the second flight, but he fouled on his final two throws to finish 13th overall.

Working through setbacks in a tough season and year, Joyner improved on his finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas where he finished 18th for honorable mention All-American recognition.

Joyner finished third at the Pac-12 Championships last month in Los Angeles and turned in a sixth-place performance at the NCAA West Regional in College Station, Texas two weeks ago.

Arizona State's Turner Washington took home the national title with a top throw of 63.42 meters (208-1) after he also won the shot put event on Wednesday. Clemson's Roje Stona finished second with a mark of 61.94 meters (203-2) and Claudio Romero of Virginia took third-place at 61.36 meters (201-4).
