Meisberger Finishes as NCAA Runner-Up in 400m Hurdles

Jun 12, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. – The 2021 track and field season came to an end for the Wildcats on Saturday at the final day of the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Shannon Meisberger had the highlighting performance, finishing as the national runner-up in the 400m hurdles.

Meisberger entered the meet with the sixth fastest 400mH time in the NCAA at 56.61. She went on to break her PR, clocking a time of 55.70 to place second and give her the fourth-fastest time in school history. Her performance also meets the qualifying standard for the Olympic Trials.

"I am so impressed with Shannon," said head coach Fred Harvey. "She's put in the work all year long and has 100% believed in the system and in herself. She was able to make the in-race adjustments needed in order to excel."

At her second career trip to the outdoor championships, Lillian Lowe finished as a Second-Team All-American in the high jump after getting over the bar at 1.81m (5-11.25) to take ninth.

Skylar Sieben closed out her season in the heptathlon on Saturday, tallying a day two score of 2,231. Her highest scoring event of the meet was the 100mH where she clocked 14.06 to score 970 points. This was Sieben's first trip to the NCAA Finals, concluding a successful season where she posted the fifth-best score in program history with 5,635 points.

The women's side finished 30th overall with a team score of 10, matching the men's side's finish from Friday.

"We missed on some performances," said coach Harvey. "Every athlete that felt like they should've scored would tell you the same thing. Regardless, I'm extremely proud of all the athletes on our team. It was such an interesting year, running three seasons at one time. The biggest takeaway is that we were able to navigate through it and stay healthy. The future is huge for us. Almost everyone at this meet is young and returning next year and they now have a taste of what it's like to compete at this level."

Next up, a handful of Wildcats will travel back to Eugene, Ore. for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials from June 18-21 and 24-27.
