@SunDevilWBB to play three games at 2021 Cancun Challenge

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil women's basketball team will be spending Thanksgiving weekend in Mexico where they will play three games in three days at the 2021 Cancun Challenge.
 
The event, which will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, features four teams in the Mayan Division (Arizona State, Baylor, Fordham and Houston) and six teams in the Riviera Division (UCF, Idaho State, Iowa, Seton Hall, Toledo and USC). 
 
The Sun Devils will open play at the Cancun Challenge on Thurs., Nov. 25 with a Turkey Day contest against Houston (1:30 p.m. EST/11:30 a.m. MST). The game will be a rematch of last season's WNIT contest won by Houston 50-48. Less than 24 hours later (11 a.m. EST/9 a.m. MST), the Sun Devils will take on perennial national power and 2021 regional finalist Baylor. ASU will then close out the Cancun Challenge on Sat., Nov. 27 when they face Fordham (11 a.m. EST/9 a.m. MST).
 
This will be the fifth visit (2005, 2007, 2013, 2017) to the Cancun Challenge for the Sun Devils, who won all three of their games in 2013.
 
All games will be broadcast through FloHoops (www.FloHoops.com).

Friday, Nov. 26

Saturday, Nov. 27

Games are played in the modified ballroom at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya; teams and their fans are in walking distance from their rooms to the games to the restaurants to poolside.

"We fully expected the Women's Cancun Challenge to attract its usual standout field for 2021; it was just a matter of moving past the pandemic obstacles to get the schedules assembled," said Sarah Molina, event director for the Cancun Challenge. "Teams and fans are energized with the return to a normal college basketball season, and this event will fulfill their expectations of strong competition and a memorable experience up and down the roster."
