Eugene, Ore. | Hayward Field
June 18-27, 2021
Event Schedule | Broadcast Schedule
SEATTLE – The most anticipated track and field meet in the U.S. arrives at last, five years since the last installment. The U.S. Olympic Trials begin this Friday, June 18, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. and continue until Sunday, June 27, determining the team that will represent America at the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
Twelve athletes with Husky ties, including four Dawgs that just competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, will compete for the trip to Tokyo. Team USA will once again send three athletes in each event to the Olympics, so top-three is the goal for the nation's elite athletes. Top-three finishers must also have the Olympic Standard to make the team.
The four Huskies that are right back at Hayward after competing at NCAAs last week include Cass Elliott in the 400m hurdles, Elijah Mason in the discus, Katie Rainsberger in the steeplechase, and Jonah Wilson in the shot put.
Three current Husky volunteer assistant coaches will take part: Alli Cash in the 1,500m and 5,000m, class of 2019 grad Olivia Gruver in the pole vault, and Sam Prakel in the 1,500m.
A total of six Husky alumni will chase their dreams, including Gruver. Lindsay Flanagan is in the women's 10k, Eleanor Fulton is in the women's 1,500-meters, Mel Lawrence is in the women's steeplechase, Denham Patricelli throws the javelin, and Izaic Yorks will run the men's 1,500-meters.
First up on Friday will be Cash and Fulton in the 1,500-meter first round, and Jonah Wilson in the shot put, which will have qualifying rounds at 12 noon and the finals at 6:30 p.m.
NBC and NBCSN will provide coverage over eight nights, including six in primetime on NBC. NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app will present exclusive streaming coverage of select field events, including long jump, pole vault, shot put, hammer, javelin, discus, 20km race walk, decathlon and heptathlon from Eugene.
