Jun 23, 2021

BERKELEY - Former California great Alex Morgan has been selected to the U.S. Women's National Team Olympic roster for the third time as she will don the Red, White and Blue at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the organization announced Wednesday morning.

Morgan, a team captain for the USWNT, has collected 178 caps with the team following her career at Berkeley. Morgan scored 45 goals during her time with the Golden Bears and is tied at third in all-time scoring for California. During her senior season with the Bears, she competed in just 12 games before being called up to the U.S. National Team, where she helped the U.S. qualify for the World Cup.

A standout striker, Morgan is the fifth all-time scorer for the United States and has scored 110 goals and counting. As an Olympian, Morgan has scored five goals representing the U.S., along with nine goals collected from Olympic qualifiers. At the 2012 London Olympics, she scored the game-winning goal in the 123rd minute of the semifinal game against Canada.

This marks Morgan's first Olympic berth since becoming a mother in May of 2020. She scored her first career goal postpartum on February 24, 2021 in the U.S.'s 5-0 win against Argentina.
