Henriksen Earns Spot At U23 World Championships

Jun 23, 2021

Cal rising junior women's rower Sammie Henriksen has earned a spot for Team USA in the quadruple sculls for next month's Under-23 World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.

Henriksen, who helped the Bears' second varsity eight take third place at last season's Pac-12 Championships, secured the berth after participating in the USRowing U23 National Team Selection Camp at the University of Iowa earlier this month.

Henriksen has previous experience rowing in the U.S. National Team program. She rowed in the eight at both the 2018 and 2019 World Junior Championships, earning the silver medal in 2018. Henriksen also finished third in the eight at the 2018 USRowing Youth National Championships.

"We are thrilled that Sammie once again has the opportunity to race for Team USA," Cal head coach Al Acosta said. "Sammie is one of the hardest workers on our team, so it's no surprise that she's earned this opportunity. We look forward to watching her race in the Czech Republic."

Henriksen will be in the bow seat of the U.S. quadruple scull and be joined by Clare Naughton and Margaret Hedeman of Yale and Susan Cook of Boston University.

The U23 World Championships are set for July 7-11 at Labe Arena Racice.
