UCLA junior first baseman JT Schwartz has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-District Baseball Team, as announced on Thursday by CoSIDA. A First Team selection, Schwartz now advances to the Academic All-America ballot, with honorees scheduled to be announced in late July.
The Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Schwartz was one of just four infielders, and 11 student-athletes overall, to be honored from District 8, which is comprised of California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Canada. All but one of the 11 recognized players hailed from the Pac-12 Conference.
On the field, Schwartz was one of the top hitters in the country this season, slashing .396/.514/.628 en route to Third Team All-America and First Team All-Region honors. The 2021 Pac-12 Batting Champion added 21 extra-base hits (including eight home runs) and was UCLA's leader in RBIs (45) this season despite missing 13 games over the course of the year.
A two-year starter at first base, Schwartz has crafted a .377 career average so far at UCLA.
Off the field, Schwartz has been named to the UCLA Director's Honor Roll in five consecutive quarters (spring 2021 has not yet been announced).
