Hockey Announces 2021-22 Schedule

Jul 6, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sun Devil Hockey announced its 2021-2022 season schedule and the final season at Oceanside Ice Arena on Tuesday afternoon. The schedule features three 2021 NCAA Tournament teams, an away series with 2021 Frozen Four participant Minnesota State, four consecutive series against teams who received votes to be in the Top 20 Poll, and the most home games of any season so far.

There are 10 home series and eight away series for a 36-game slate for the 2021-2022 season.

The season kicks off at home on Oct. 2-3 as the Sun Devils host UMass-Lowell before the team heads out for their first road trip of the season to the Mile High City to face off against the Pioneers, who finished fifth in the NCHC last season. ASU is 1-2-1 all-time against the Pioneers, picking up a win and a tie in the 2019-2020 series in Tempe.

The Sun Devils will play a home series against New Hampshire the following weekend before a trip out east to Hamilton, New York, to take on Colgate before returning the desert to take on St. Thomas in the Tommies first year as a Division I program.

The season then ramps up as the Sun Devils will face Quinnipiac, Bemidji State, Denver, and Clarkson in four consecutive series. All four teams were either ranking or receiving votes in the final USCHO.com Top 20 Poll last season. The team is set to finish the first half of the schedule at Colorado College on Dec. 17-18.

ASU will then start the New Year off with a home series against Cornell, who could not play last year due to the Ivy League canceling the winter sports season but finished ranked first in the ECAC in the 2019-2020 season. Next, the Sun Devils will travel back east to take on Boston University, who finished in the Top 20 last season, and RIT the following weekend. The schedule includes one exhibition series against Lindenwood in Tempe on Jan. 21-22.

The schedule also includes a series against Minnesota State, who made it to last year's Frozen Four. The last time the Sun Devils faced off against the Mavericks was in 2019 in Mankato.

ASU finishes the regular season with a home-and-away series with Alaska-Fairbanks on Feb. 4/5 and Feb. 25/26. The Sun Devils top off the calendar with a home series versus Long Island in their second season as a Division I program.
