Jul 9, 2021

Former Cal women's water polo standout Roser Tarrago was named to Spain's Olympic roster on Friday.

This will be Tarrago's third straight Olympic berth. She helped Spain capture the silver medal in 2012 and fifth place in 2016.

"We are so happy for Ru that she has once again been named to Spain's Olympic roster," Cal head coach Coralie Simmons said. "She was an elite player at Cal and continues to be one on the international stage. We are looking forward to watching her compete in Tokyo."

Tarrago played at Cal in 2014-15 and was a two-time All-American, helping the Golden Bears reach the semifinals of the NCAA Championships each year.

Cal now has a total of six current of former women's water polo players who have qualified for the Olympics. Along with Tarrago, alums Anna Illes (Hungary), Kindred Paul (Canada) and Kelly McKee (Canada) and rising seniors Emma Wright (Canada) and Kitty Lynn Joustra (The Netherlands) will also compete in Tokyo.

The 2020 Olympic women's water polo competition runs July 24-Aug. 7 at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center.
