LEXINGTON, Kentucky – California beach volleyball earned the Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Cal was one of 1,275 teams across all of volleyball to be honored and one of 33 Division I beach programs to earn the 2020-21 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.
The Bears are one of only four Pac-12 schools to earn the distinction from the AVCA. It is the second straight year that the Cal squad has been honored by the AVCA for their team academics.
In order for a team to earn the 2020-21 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, the entire team must achieve a minimum team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), a 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the 2020-21 academic year.
California tallied a 3.42 team GPA during the 2020-21 season. 15 members of the team posted a 3.0 or better and 12 tallied a 3.30+ GPA despite adjusting to remote learning for the entirety of the 2020-21 academic year.
