Anna Cockrell, USC's Women's Track & Field Team Earn USTFCCCA Top Academic Honors
The USC women's team was named the Women's Outdoor National Scholar Team of the Year, Anna Cockrell was named the Women's Outdoor National Scholar Athlete of the Year and 23 Trojans were named All-Academic for the 2021 season by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (July 22). In addition, the USC men's team was named an All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for USATFCCCA All-Acadmeic as a team you must maintain a composite cumulative Grade-Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better, while an individual must have a GPA of 3.25 or better.
The USC women's team was named the Women's Outdoor National Scholar Team of the Year as it maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and won the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field team title, its second in three seasons. It is also the second time in the last three seasons that the USC women's team has been named the Women's Outdoor Track and Field National Scholar Team of the Year.
Cockrell, a 2020 Tokyo Olympian in the 400m hurdles, was named the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. She maintained a perfect cumulative graduate school GPA of 4.0 and won both the 100H and 400H at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, becoming just the second athlete in meet history to sweep those events (Queen Harrison, Virginia Tech in 2010). It is the first time in program history that a USC athlete has been named the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. Cockrell also set the USC 400m hurdles record of 53.70 this season and won both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles titles at the Pac-12 Championships.
The men's team was named USTFCCCA All-Academic as it had a cumulative GPA of 3.079.
