Wattenberg On Preseason Rimington Trophy Watch List

Jul 23, 2021

The Rimington Trophy, which honors college football's top center, announced its 2021 preseason watch list today, and that list includes UW senior Luke Wattenberg.

The diverse Wattenberg has started 36 consecutive games on the Huskies' offensive line, including center in each of the team's four games in 2020. He previously started 27-straight games at left guard in 2019 and 2018 and started the last five games of 2017 at left tackle.

Wattenberg earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention after the 2020 season. He was the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the week after the Arizona game and won the Iron Husky Award at the team's postseason awards banquet.

This year, the Rimington Trophy committee worked with Pro Football Focus (PFF) to narrow its list to the top 40 centers. PFF grades every player on every play of every game on how well they execute their given assignment. That play-by-play grading allowed the Trophy committee to create a watch list based both on nominations from the school and data provided by PFF.

This year, the Pac-12 placed seven players on the watch list, the most of any conference in the nation.
