Fifteen Receive ACWPC Academic Recognition
On Monday, the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches released the 2020-21 Academic All America team, and fifteen Sun Devils were among those on the list. This was an increase from 2019-20, where nine Sun Devils earned the recognition. Arizona State finished the season 13-11 with a program-high third place finish in the NCAA tournament, which was also the highest finish among fellow Sun Devil teams this past season.
Among the academic selections were three of ASU's four All Americans: Bente Rogge (3.58), Amira Van Buren (3.34), and Chelsea Karimazondo (3.27).
Van Buren graduated with her BSW in Social Work and plans to return this season to pursue her Masters in Social Work.
All five of the graduating seniors were named to the Academic team to cap off their Sun Devil Careers.
Tarah Schaffer, a student in Barrett, the Honors College, and Ali Cameron each earned a 4.0 GPA to lead the team. The team posted a 3.43 GPA which was third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference behind San Jose State's 3.57 and Stanford's league leading 3.846.
The other Sun Devils honored for their academic excellence were Emily Van Zonneveld (3.93), Alba Olive Marti (3.81), Emma Fraser (3.63), Meghan Beaudet (3.61), Lara Kiss (3.6), Itzahiana Baca (3.44), Kate Cassidy (3.35), Bori Kekesi (3.3), Belen Ehinger (3.29), and Blaire McDowell (3.21).
