BERKELEY – Nikko Remigio was selected Thursday for the first time in his career to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. The honor is given annually to the most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission in the memory of late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.

2021 Honors – All-Pac-12 Third Team Preseason (Phil Steele) … selected as a punt returner; Paul Hornung Award Preseason Watch List
– Has played in 25 games with 12 starts since his arrival at Cal as a freshman in 2018 and is the Golden Bears' active career leader in all return and receiving categories with 34 punt returns for 274 yards and three kick returns for 55 yards in the return game, while totaling 59 receptions for 665 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver
– Has totaled 1012 all-purpose yards and is second on the squad behind only Christopher Brooks in career all-purpose yards among Cal's active players
• Recorded all of his career highs other than punt returns and rushing yards when he played in a career-high 12 games with a career-high eight starts as a 2019 sophomore and finished with team highs of 38 receptions, 513 yards receiving, 12 punt returns and 138 punt return yards
• Had a career-high 15 punt returns for 103 yards as a freshman
Texas Roadhouse signed on as presenting sponsor of the Paul Hornung Award in 2011 and will partner with the Louisville Sports Commission to power fan voting again this season. College football fans nationwide will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite player during the regular season and again during the bowl season. Fan voting will open in late September and factor into the selection of the finalists and winner. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award Dinner at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville in March of 2022.
The Paul Hornung Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which is unveiling 2021 preseason watch lists for 16 of its 25 prestigious awards over a 12-day period from July 19-30.
