Junior Briana Perez has been named to the Academic All-America Second Team, as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Thursday.

Perez is the ninth Bruin ever to be named an Academic All-America, and first since 2006, joining Andrea Duran ('06, First Team), Alleah Poulson (1997, First Team; 1996, Second Team), Jennifer Brundage (1994 and 1995, First Team; 1993, Third Team), Kathy Lorenz (1987, Third Team), Barbara Young (1984, Second Team), Sheila Cornell (1984, Second Team; 1983, First Team), Barbara Booth (1983, Second Team) and Michelle Aguilar (1983, First Team).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Perez was named First Team Academic All-District for the third season in a row earlier this month.

Perez, an NFCA Third Team All-American, and an All-Region and All-Pac-12 First Team and All-Pac-12 Defensive Team selection, led the Bruins in batting average (.353), runs scored (52), triples (5), total bases (119), multiple-hit games (16) and multi-RBI contests (12), ranking second with 41 runs batted in and a .700 slugging percentage, third with 13 stolen bases and tied for third with 13 home runs. Perez had hits in 43 of 54 games, posting hitting streaks of seven, eight, five and 12 this season. She scored a run in 37 of 54 games, including multiples 14 times.
