TOKYO – Alex Morgan and the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team will be playing for the bronze medal later this week while Luca Cupido and Johnny Hooper concluded the preliminary rounds for Team USA in men's water polo as three Bears competed Sunday night and Monday morning (Pacific Time) in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Bears have earned 12 total medals thus far (four gold, four silver, and four bronze).
Women's Soccer
Morgan and Team USA lost to Canada in the semifinals, 1-0, after a Canadian penalty kick in the 75th minute proved to be the difference. The Americans will go for the bronze against Australia on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 1 a.m. PT. Morgan tallied two shots on goal against Canada.
Men's Water Polo
Cupido, Hooper and Team USA lost to Greece, 14-5, in the final preliminary round match Sunday night. The Americans completed pool play with a record of 2-3. The four points earned were good enough for Team USA to advance to the quarterfinals. Against Greece, Cupido and Hooper each registered two shots. Team USA faces Spain in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 10 p.m. PT.
