MUNICH, Germany – Incoming Utah Women's Basketball freshman Inês Vieria shined on one of the biggest stages in international basketball this past week, leading Portugal to the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship.
The point guard, who comes to Utah from The Madeira Island, Portugal, was integral in Team Portugal's success in Germany, averaging 14.2 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
She hit the 20-point mark twice during the tournament, including a tournament-high 23 points against Germany to open competition. She also dropped 21 points in Portugal's win over Russia, shooting 47-percent from the floor while racking up six assistant.
Vieria recorded a tournament-best seven rebounds against Romania, also contributing 14 points, four assists and five steals. She notched a tournament-high six steals against Latvia, following that up with six points, six assists and four rebounds in the championship game.
Vieria also played for Team Portugal in the U16 Women's European Championships in 2018 and 2019, leading them to a silver medal finish in 2019.
