IWLCA Recognizes Lacrosse with Academic Awards

Aug 4, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Lacrosse team and several members of the program were honored by the IWLCA, as they released their Academic Awards for the 2020-21 academic year.

The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association released their annual Academic Honors and Sun Devil Lacrosse was well represented. Arizona State was selected as a IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the fourth consecutive year. To achieve this distinction, the team had to finish with a combined GPA of 3.2 or higher. The hard work in the classroom was a team effort and a part of the culture that Head Coach Tim McCormack has established heading into his third season in Tempe.

In addition to the team honor, 12 Sun Devils were named to the 2021 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. The following Sun Devils acheived the feat, giving Arizona State a total of 17 honorees in the brief history of the program:

Carley Adams, GR, Business Journalism
Berkeley Bonneau, GR, Family and Human Development (MS)
Katie Brodsky, JR, Exercise and Wellness
Kaylon Buckner, JR, Business Entrepreneurship/Supply Chain Management
Kate Dougherty, SR, Communication
Emily Glagolev, SR, Biomedical Engineering
Maddy Hunter, SR, Medical Studies
Kylie Kroeger, SR, Psychology
Morgan McCaffrey, JR, Public Service and Public Policy/Business
Emily Munro, SR, Liberal Studies
Sydney Payne, JR, Chemistry
Maria Villanti, SR, Political Science

The 12 individual selected to the Division I Academic Honor Roll obliterates the previous program record of four. In the two seasons prior, the program had combined to land six on the IWLCA's prestigious list. In Coach McCormack team's first year of eligibility (2020 awards cancelled due to COVID-19), he doubled that total. The 12 selections are the second-most in the Pac-12, narrowly behind Stanford.

The IWLCA named 319 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Academic Honor Squads for the 2020-21 academic year. 862 student-athletes from 103 different institutions landed on the 2021 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll.
