LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's basketball team will face Villanova in a home-and-home series during the 2021-22 and 2023-24 seasons, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Bruins will host Villanova in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom this fall on Friday, Nov. 12. UCLA will return to face Villanova in Philadelphia during the 2023-24 season.
"We wanted to schedule a great home game for our fans in Pauley Pavilion, and Villanova provides exactly that," said Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "In today's era of so many neutral site contests and power five leagues that play 20 conference games, a series like this is tough to schedule. I also know our players will be excited about playing a great team like the Wildcats."
Game time and television information for the upcoming Nov. 12 matchup will be released at a later date.
This will mark the sixth meeting in the all-time series between UCLA and Villanova, which began in 1970-71. The Bruins won the 1971 NCAA Championship with a 68-62 win over Villanova at the Astrodome in Houston to capture UCLA's fifth consecutive NCAA title.
UCLA defeated Villanova in Pauley Pavilion, 93-65, on Jan. 13, 2001 in the only previous meeting in Los Angeles. Villanova has won the last three matchups. Most recently, Villanova downed UCLA, 82-70, on Nov. 24, 2010, in the NIT Season Tip-off at Madison Square Garden (New York).
Most recently, UCLA faced an opponent from the Big East Conference last season. The Bruins beat Marquette, 69-60, in Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 11, 2020. The Bruins are scheduled to play at Marquette on Dec. 11, 2021, as part of a return game in that home-and-home series.
