CORVALLIS – The Oregon State softball team has added transfers Harleigh Braswell and Savanah Whatley to its roster for the 2022 season, head coach Laura Berg announced Friday.
Harleigh Braswell – C/Hitter, So., Sutter Creek, Calif. (Arizona State)
Braswell joins the Beavers as a catcher/hitter from Arizona State. She saw action in eight games as a freshman, recording hits in both of her at bats on the season. Her 2021 campaign was highlighted by a three-run homer against UTEP on March 6. Braswell was a First-Team All-League player at Amador High School, and hit .545 in her high school career.
Braswell also excelled in soccer during her high school career, and was an excellent student with an academic interest in math, trigonometry and calculus.
"I chose OSU because I saw it as the best place to continue to grow and improve as a player," Braswell said. "I believe they are due for an OKC run, and I want to be a part of it."
Savanah Whatley – MI/Speed, So. Oakley, Calif. (Utah)
Whatley comes to Oregon State as a middle-infielder with speed. She spent her freshman campaign at Utah, where she appeared in six contests, scoring five runs. Whatley was a two-time All-League honoree at Heritage High School, and was selected for USA Junior Olympic Team Trials in 2018. She hit .544 during her junior year of high school.
Whatley is studying to become a nurse, and enjoys singing and playing the guitar.
"I chose to play softball at OSU because the program is constantly growing," Whatley said. "Going up against the team last year gave me the opportunity to see their competitive nature and scrappiness on the field first hand. I knew I wanted to be a part of it, and was beyond excited that Coach Berg gave me the opportunity to finally put the right Pac-12 uniform on. In addition, the coaching staff is filled with the most decorated players/coaches in softball. They expect the best out of their players, and I cannot wait to learn from them. Corvallis is a beautiful place to live and I can't wait to be there playing in front of the best fans in the country! GO BEAVS!"
Braswell and Whatley will join the Beavers this fall, as the squad prepares for the 2022 softball season.
