Porter On Ray Guy Watch List

Aug 6, 2021

Senior Race Porter was named to the Ray Guy Watch List which honors college football's top punter. Porter previously has been named to the William V. Campbell Trophy and Wuerffel Award watch lists, which honors football players for work in the community and accomplishments on the football field.

The Ray Guy Award - named for football's premier punter - honors the nation's best collegiate punter. The Augusta Sports Council (ASC) created the award in 2000. Along with other awards such as the Heisman Trophy and the Doak Walker Award, the Ray Guy Award honors an important member of any football team. The ASC presents the award live on The Home Depot College Football Awards broadcast on ESPN from Atlanta, Georgia.

The Ray Guy Award winner is selected by a voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, national media and former Ray Guy Award winners. Punters are evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis is placed on the following statistics; net average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned.

Porter has appeared in 41 games over four years. He is the team's primary holder on field goal and extra-point attempts and has punted 32 times for a 42.4 yard average. In 2020, he averaged 42.4 yards on 10 punts. He had three of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line and had a long punt of 52 yards.
