TEMPE, Ariz. – The annual Sun Devil Volleyball Maroon and Gold Scrimmage for Sun Devil Volleyball is back and open to the public this Saturday at noon MST in Desert Financial Arena, giving fans a first look at the 2021 squad.
The event, which is free to the public, will see the team holding an open practice. The Sun Devils will be doing different drills and scrimmaging for a set or two, with people switching from maroon and gold.
Last season, Sun Devil Volleyball was notably young, with only one senior and mainly underclassmen making up the team. However, with this past COVID season under their belt, and 13 returning athletes, the roster is stacked with experienced players and some new players ready to contribute. There are eight new student-athletes for Sun Devil nation to see in action on Saturday.
In the spring 2020-21 season, ASU went 6-14 and finished ninth place in the Pac-12. Notable wins last season include two wins over ranked opponents: No. 8 Washington in the season opener and No. 16 Oregon. Both teams went on to make it to the NCAA tournament, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen or beyond. The Sun Devils also made history at Stanford, winning there for the first time since 1982.
There will be updates for Maroon and Gold on the official Twitter page, @SunDevilVB, and on Instagram, @sundevilvolleyball. For the complete 2021 season preview, head here.
