Utah Football Game Days Upgraded with Several New Processes for 2021

Aug 18, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY – The Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium will dramatically change Utah Football game days in 2021, with capacity increasing to 51,444 and numerous new seating and hospitality choices being offered. Other major upgrades include the introduction of digital ticketing, as Utah Athletics moves to a more convenient and efficient touchless stadium entry.

Information was recently sent to season ticket holders outlining the digital ticketing process and providing step-by-step instructions to help all season ticket holders ensure they are prepared to implement the new system for tickets and parking passes for the season opener against Weber State on Thursday, Sept. 2.

The University of Utah and the Athletics Department recently held a ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium, inviting the Ken Garff Family to join University and Athletics leadership to mark the ceremonial opening of the $80 million stadium expansion that will transform Utah Football game days.

To kick off the season and give fans an opportunity to experience the Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Utah Athletics is hosting a Welcome Back Open House on Saturday, Aug. 21. Gates open at 5 p.m. for tours and the program—featuring interviews with head coaches from every sport program, hosted by Bill Riley—runs from 6-8 p.m. This event also will serve as an opportunity for fans to try out the digital ticketing system before the season. Tickets for the open house are free, but must be reserved in advance at this link, to be downloaded to a smartphone.

Game themes for 2021, beyond the Sept. 2 home opener, include:
Sept. 25 vs. Washington State -- Homecoming
Oct. 16 vs. Arizona State -- Ute Proud
Oct. 30 vs. UCLA -- Dark Mode (subject to change depending on kickoff time)
Nov. 20 vs. Oregon -- Military Appreciation
Nov. 26 vs. Colorado -- Senior Day

A limited number of season tickets are still available by visiting utahtickets.com, and single-game tickets for the Utes' six home games went on sale today. Discounted tickets for UU faculty and staff are available for $20 for the Sept. 2 home opener, and may be purchased at this link.

GAME DAY HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2021:

Digital Tickets and Parking: Tickets and parking will be scanned on game day using the ticket holder's mobile device. To ensure a successful introduction to the new digital ticketing system, fans are encouraged to have their tickets and parking passes downloaded to their wallet on either iPhone or Android devices, and ready to present upon arrival at the parking lot and stadium gates to expedite the entry process. Step-by-step instructions for the process have been delivered to season ticket holders via email and may be accessed online by logging in to a season ticket holder's account and selecting "Manage Tickets" from the pull-down menu, under Tickets.

It is also recommended that fans plan to arrive early to allow extra time for the entry process. Those who are unable to employ digital ticketing are encouraged to contact their ticket office representative at 801-581-8849 to learn about alternative solutions.

Cashless Concessions: To reduce touchpoints and increase efficiency with concessions sale, Rice-Eccles Stadium will introduce cashless concessions transactions. All sales will be completed using credit cards or an applicable phone payment app.

Parking Lots: New in 2021, parking lots will open five hours before kickoff, with the exception of the Signature Parking Lot and the Guardsman Way Tailgating Lot.

Clear Bag Policy: Rice-Eccles Stadium will continue to utilize a clear-bag policy, and the stadium will introduce no-bag lines at all major gates to help expedite entry for those not bringing a bag into the stadium. Only clear bags, up to 12"x18", will be allowed inside the stadium. No bags, purses or duffels may be brought into the stadium.

UtahGameDay Twitter: The Utah Athletics department has created a designated Twitter account to disseminate real-time information to fans attending games, and to receive instant feedback to help solve issues and improve fans' game-day experience. Please follow @UtahGameDay.

Utah Athletics is excited to welcome fans back to Rice-Eccles Stadium for the 2021 football season, and celebrate the addition of the Ken Garff Red Zone at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
