UCLA junior Madelyn Desiano has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after a three-assist performance in the season's opening week.

Desiano, who hails from San Clemente, Calif., recorded assists on half of UCLA's six goals this weekend while leading the Bruins to a pair of victories, including one shutout. In the Bruins' season-opening win over UC Irvine, where she made her first career start, she assisted on the game's first two goals. Desiano played the full 90 in a 3-0 shutout win at Cal State Fullerton three days later and picked up another assist on the Bruins' second goal. On the defensive end, she helped the Bruins hold Cal State Fullerton to just four shots and UC Irvine to six.

This is Desiano's first-ever Player of the Week award.

The Bruins will host Long Beach State on Sunday, Aug. 29 at Wallis Annenberg Stadium at 6pm PT.
