Arizona Goes 3-0 at the Cactus Classic

TUCSON, Ariz – Arizona completed a sweep of the Cactus Classic after defeating UC San Diego 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats controlled the entire match, with Jaelyn Hodge scoring 15 points and Sofia Maldonado Diaz scoring 13 points. 
 
Set 1 | Arizona - 25, UCSD - 17
The Wildcats came out of the gate strong against the Tritons. Jaelyn Hodge led the attack for Arizona with six kills. Hodge also had a block solo and Puk Stubbe and Nicole Briggs combined for a block assist against UCSD. Sofia Maldonado Diaz served two aces in addition to two kills.
 
Set 2 | Arizona - 25, UCSD - 13
Arizona's offense shined in set two, hitting .536 on 15 kills. Maldonado Diaz led with four kills and Stubbe had three kills. Zyonna Fellows and Herman each had two block assists to stop the Tritons' offense. While Arizona hit .536, the Wildcats kept UCSD to a .000 hitting percentage in the second set.
 
Set 3 | Arizona - 25, UCSD - 16
Hodge led the Arizona offense in the third set with five kills followed by Briggs with four kills. In addition to Briggs four kills, she had two block assists in the set. Maldonado Diaz found her rhythm as she served three aces for the Wildcats.

Arizona will head to Las Cruces, N.M. next week to compete in New Mexico State's tournament on Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept. 4.
