SEATTLE – The Washington women's soccer team earned their first victory of the year after taking the home opener 1-0 over Loyola Marymount. With the win, the Huskies improved to 1-2 on the campaign.
Ameera Hussen's goal in the 53rd minute was the difference maker in the game. Hussen recovered a loose ball in the center of the box and calmly placed it in the right side of the net for her first goal of the season.

It was a scoreless first half as neither squad had too many promising opportunities. The Huskies took over control at the beginning at the second half, ending the game outshooting Loyola Marymount 13-4.
Goalkeeper Olivia Sekany wasn't challenged too often as she only had to make one save during the contest.
With the loss, Loyola Marymount moved to 0-4 to begin their year.
UW is back in action at home on Thursday night at 6 p.m. to take on Portland.
