Beavers Edged In 2021 Season Opener

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – B.J. Baylor ran for a pair of touchdowns and Tyjon Lindsey scored his second career rushing touchdown in Oregon State's 30-21 season-opening loss at Purdue Saturday night.
 
Baylor scored on a 9-yard rush in the first quarter, then from 2-yards out in the fourth with just over three minutes remaining. That score pulled the Beavers to within two, 23-21, but the Boilermakers scored on a 50-yard pass a minute later to seal their 9-point victory.
 
Baylor posted his first career two-score effort and now has seven rushing touchdowns in his career.
 
Lindsey scored on a 7-yard rush early in the fourth quarter. His was the first of 28 combined points by the teams in the fourth quarter; both the Beavers and Boilermakers scored 14.
 
Lindsey ended the game with four receptions for 42 yards in addition to one pass completion, for 34 yards, and two carries totaling 10 yards. Trevon Bradford caught five passes for the Beavers for a team-leading 75 yards.
 
Defensively, the Beavers (0-1) were led by Omar Speights, who hit double-digit tackles for the eighth time in his career. He totaled 12. Avery Roberts also posted his eighth career double-digit tackle game with 10.
 
Oregon State returns to action Saturday, Sept. 11 when the Beavers host Hawai'i at Reser Stadium. Kick is scheduled for 8 p.m. PT and will air live on FS1.
