PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wisc. — Sun Devil Triathlon has qualified for the National Championship following a dominant performance at the Pleasant Prairie National Qualifier on Saturday morning. In their first race of the season, the Sun Devils swept the podium, with five finishing in the top-seven.
Two-time national champion Hannah Henry led the way for ASU, finishing with a time of 1:00:15.0, just four seconds ahead of teammate Kyla Roy. Coming in third was Liberty Ricca who recorded a time of 1:01:15.6.
"It's incredibly good to be back racing, especially since we missed our season last year due to COVID-19. I'm so proud of this team," head coach Cliff English said. "They raced so strong while racing as a team. They were so calculated and won every little mini battle and each one of them won their sprint to the line as well to better their opponent."
"There was tremendous grit and determination, it's fantastic to see our two super seniors showing the young guns on the team how to get it done!"
Amber Schlebusch and Kira Stanley finished fifth and seventh respectively. In her first collegiate race, Katy Clausen placed 12th overall, while Olivia Jenks came across the finish line 35th overall.
Ricca finished with the fastest swim time among the Sun Devils (10:28.1) and second-fastest among all competitors. Clausen recorded the third-fastest swim time (10:30.7). Jenks had a team-high 33.04.1 on the bike, while Henry wrapped things up with a field-best run time of 18:14.4. ASU had the four-highest run times in the race.
The Sun Devils will be back in action in Tempe as they host their first race on Sat., Sept. 18.
