Freshman Colton Smith to Compete in US Open

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. - On Monday, freshman Colton Smith is set to compete in the 2021 US Open Junior Tennis Championship. Smith was accepted as a wild card in the main draw and will face off against Edas Butvilas from Lithuania. Smith will take the court in the third match at 8 a.m. MST on Court 15.

The Blue-Chip American recruit is ranked No. 2 in the United States with a career-high ITF ranking of 107. This year, Smith placed third in the US Nationals in both singles and doubles and is the highest ranked American recruit in Clancy Shields' tenure. Smith is the first Wildcat since Jonas Ziverts in 2016 to compete in the US Open.

His opponent Butvilas has a career record of 69-34 in singles with a career-high ITF ranking of 24 and a current ranking of 25. Butvilas also won the 2021 Wimbledon Juniors Doubles Championship with his partner Alejandro Manzanera Pertusa.
