Utah Hosts BYU and Dixie State at Ute Field

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's soccer team returns to Ute Field for two matchups against in-state teams this week. On Thursday, Utah hosts Brigham Young, presented by DoTERRA, before finishing off the week by hosting Dixie State on Sunday.

Last Time Out
The Utes took the pitch on September 5, when they took on Butler University in Indianapolis. The Utes were defeated 2-1 in the match. The Bulldogs came out and scored two goals over a five-minute span late in the first half. Utah responded and scored in the 42nd minute of the half, as Courtney Talbot scored on a PK. Utah turned up the offensive pressure in the second half but could not find the tying goal. 
 
Scouting Brigham Young
Brigham Young enters the matchup with the Utes as the 22nd ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches' Top 25. The Cougars are 3-2-0 on the season, with all three wins coming at South Field in Provo, Utah. Brigham Young is coming off a 7-0 win over Marquette on September 2. Seven different players scored in the match, and the Cougars limited Marquette to five shots in the contest. This season, the Cougars have scored 13 goals while limiting opponents to 5 goals. Brigham Young is outshooting opponents, 108 to 68. Mikayla Colohan leads the team with three goals on the season. She is one of nine players to score a goal this season. Brecken Mozingo and Bella Folino are the only other players with multiple goals. Cassidy Smith has started all five games in goal for the Cougars, and she has 11 saves with one shutout. She is allowing 1.07 goals per game. 
 
Scouting Dixie State
The Trailblazers of Dixie State enter the week with a record of 3-3-0 on the season. Before playing at Utah on Sunday, Dixie State plays host to the University of the Pacific at Greater Zion Stadium. This will be the first home match of the year for Dixie State. The Trailblazers are coming in having scored nine goals this season while allowing 11. Whitley Griffiths leads the team with three goals scored. Two of her three goals have been game-winners. Kalea Woodyatt is second on the team with two goals. In goal, Kayla Gonzales leads the team as she has played 315 minutes this season. She has allowed four goals and has tallied 18 saves. She is allowing 1.14 goals per game. 
 
Last Time Against BYU
The Utes and Cougars played in February during the 2020-21 spring season and was the season-opener. These two met at the Zion Bank Training Center in Herriman, Utah. The Utes came up short against the Cougars in the matchup, falling 5-1 to the nation's then No. 10 ranked team. Utah holds a record of 7-24-2 all-time against the Cougars and is 4-10-0 when playing at Ute Field. 
 
Last Time Against Dixie State 
In the second game of the 2020-21 spring season, the Utes met the Trailblazers, and Utah came away with a 2-1 victory over Dixie State. In the second overtime period, Hanna Olsen scored the game-winning goal. She scored both goals for the Utes in the match. Sunday will be the second meeting all-time between these two programs. Utah won the first matchup last season. 
 
Olsen's Career-Day
Last season Hanna Olsen had a career-day against Dixie State. Olsen scored the first goal of her collegiate career against the Trailblazers. She was not done as she scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime, helping the Utes to their first win of the season. Entering this week's matchups, Olsen's four-point, two-goal game against Dixie State are her career-highs. What does she have in store for this week?
 
Next Up
Following the two-game homestand, the Utes return to the road to take on Utah State on Thursday, September 16, with first kick taking place at 5 p.m. MT. The matchup against the Aggies will be the final non-conference match of the season for the Utes. Utah opens up Pac-12 play on Friday, September 24, at Stanford.
