Arizona Triumphs Over Nebraska 3-2 Thanks to Late Goal by Jill Aguilera

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona Wildcats (3-3-0) defeated Nebraska (4-4-0) with a final score of 3-2. The match began largely in favor of the Cornhuskers as they were able to take an early lead in the 8th minute. Arizona got to work fast, equalizing the match 10 minutes later. They were tied 1-1 at the half but advanced to 2-2 with five minutes left in regulation. In what was believed to be a match headed for over time, redshirt senior Jill Aguilera was able to score a brace and the game-winning goal to tip the match with 90 seconds left. The Cats were out-shot by the Huskers 24-16 (13-7) but collected more corner kick opportunities by four. Hope Hisey was on fire as she made 11 saves, increasing her total to 33.

Plays of the match - Seeing Double
Redshirt Senior Jill Aguilera and junior Madison Goerlinger were seeing double against the Huskers as they aided in the first-half equalizer in the first and the game-winner in the second. Just 10 minutes after Nebraska had put themselves on the board, Goerlinger and Aguilera took their opportunity to balance the score. A perfectly placed Goerlinger ball found Aguilera, who didn't hesitate to send it soaring over the keeper's head from over 50 yards away. 

When things looked like they were headed into overtime the pair came back to win the game within regulation. in the 88th minute, Goerlinger was able to launch a ball over four Huskers where landing it at the feet of Aguilera. Aguilera was able to send the it through the legs of the keeper and past a Husker defender to win the match for Arizona. 

Players of the match - For the First Time
Sophomore Nicole Dallin added her name to the long list of firsts for the Arizona underclassman this season. In the 51st minute Dallin was able to find a pass from freshman Maddy Koleno, who received her first career assist, and send into the back of the net from just outside the penalty box. Dallin's goal gave Arizona the 2-1 lead early into the second half.

7 - Seven Wildcat underclassman have scored career first goals or assists this season. Against NAU, sophomore's Tianna Sidktikun and Kayden Heinrich scored their first career goals with freshman Olivia Briede picking up a career first assist. Freshman Desiree Foster scored her first career goal against CSUN with Gianna Chirstiansen getting her first assist. And finally, sophomore Nicole Dallin and freshman Maddy Koleno earned their career firsts against Nebraska. 

8 - This is Jill Aguilera's eighth brace of her career and second of the season. 

11 - Hope Hisey recorded 11 saves against the Huskers, this is the most saves she has recorded in a single match in her time at Arizona. 

28 - Jill Aguilera scored her 27th and 28th career goals against Nebraska. She is one goal away from tieing for second place in UA program history in career goals scored.
