LOS ANGELES – No. 3 UCLA kept its shutout streak alive, winning its sixth consecutive game and fifth by shutout, 3-0 over visiting CSUN. The Bruins received a pair of first half goals from their top two scorers, Reilyn Turner and Mia Fishel, and a third in the second half on a diving header from graduate student Olivia Athens.
Fishel put UCLA on the board early with a right-footed shot off an assist from Athens at 5:16. The goal was Fishel's fourth of the season. Turner doubled the Bruins' lead at 26:27, scoring on the rebound of her own saved shot for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Athens netted her first goal of the 2021 season at 59:48 on a diving header off a service from Quincy McMahon to increase UCLA's lead to 3-0.
Goalkeeper Lauren Brzykcy started and played the full 90 and made six saves off 10 CSUN shots, including three in the 15 minutes. Brzykcy has yet to allow a goal this season in 450 minutes.
UCLA totaled 16 shots in the game, five of which were saved by goalkeeper Elizabeth Bornhauser. CSUN also had two team saves in the first half, the first coming in the 20th minute on a header by Turner that was on its way to goal but headed out of danger by a Matador defender.
Turner and Fishel combined for 11 shots, eight of which were on goal.
UCLA (6-0) will next play at San Diego on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6pm. The match will be live streamed on WCC Network.
