Last Time Out
The Ducks split their two matches at last weekend's Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge. UO opened with a sweep of No. 18 Penn State but dropped a tough five setter to No. 13 Minnesota. In the latter, the Ducks took a 2-1 lead and was ahead 17-15 in the fourth set before the Golden Gophers rallied.
Defense on Display
Through the first three weeks of the 2021 campaign, Oregon leads the Pac-12 in digs per set (17.50) and opponent hitting percentage (.132). The Ducks are also third in the conference with 3.02 blocks per set, a mark that ranks ninth in the NCAA. Oregon has limited all seven opponents under a .200 efficiency this season.
Individually, libero Georgia Murphy (4.92 d/s) and Brooke Nuneviller (3.63) enter the weekend ranked second and ninth, respectively, in the Pac-12. Three UO players—Abby Hansen (1.35 b/s), Karson Bacon (1.17) and Gloria Mutiri (1.13)—are among the league's top 10 in blocks per set.
Oregon is one week shy of the start of Pac-12 play. The Ducks open league play Wednesday, Sept. 22, with a home match against Oregon State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. (PT) at Matthew Knight Arena.
