Colorado Picks Up A Pair Of Opening Wins

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado tennis picked up a pair of wins in the first round of the Battle In The Bay Classic here Thursday to open the 2021-22 season.
 
Maria Campos and Caroline Pozo both took down their opening round opponents, while Megan Forster fell to No.15-ranked Meg Kowalski of Georgia.
 
Campos opened up with a two set victory over Chiho Mushika of San Francisco, downing her in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. She will take on the 79th-ranked player Paola Exposito Diaz Delgado of VCU in the nation in the round of 32.
 
Pozo, a transfer from Northwestern, won her first match as a Buff against Caragh Courtney of San Francisco 6-3, 7-5. Pozo has a tough second-round matchup as well against No.66 Morgan Coppoc of Georgia.
 
In the loss, Forster battled tough against the top-seeded individual out of Georgia, but ultimately dropped the match 6-1, 6-2.
 
The women will turn to doubles where Campos will team up with Mya Bui of San Francisco due to Sophia Derivan being unable to make the trip. They will take on the top-seed in Kowalski and Grant from Georgia. Forster and Pozo will take on a duo from Pepperdine, the third-seeded duo in the tournament.
