OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – California men's golf opened up the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite On Friday, shooting a combined 302 (+22) strokes in the first round at Olympia Fields Country Club. Freshman Simon Kwon put forth the Bears' lowest score with 74 (+4) strokes. He is currently tied for 43rd while Cal is in 15th.
In Kwon's first round as a Bear, he collected a pair of birdies and entered the back nine just one over par. However, the Salt Lake City native shot three over in his final nine holes to finish four over. Redshirt freshman Ethan Chung finished one stroke behind Kwon and is tied for 51st with 75 (+5) strokes. Redshirt freshman Tony Chen and redshirt sophomore Costas Panay were close behind, shooting a 76 (+6) and 77 (+7) respectively and are currently tied for 61st and 70th.
