Card Begins Campaign
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Stanford men's golf began the 2021-22 campaign on Friday at Olympia Fields Country Club, shooting an 11-over 291 in the first round of the Fighting Illini Invitational. None of the 15 teams in the field were under par, with Indiana leading with a 1-over 281.
The Cardinal, who did not get to play a fall season last year, were led by sophomore Michael Thorbjornsen who is tied for 13th following his 1-over 71. Fellow classmate Karl Vilips is tied for 23rd following a 2-over 72. Junior Barclay Brown shot a 3-over 73 and Henry Shimp fired a 5-over 75 to round out the scoring for Stanford. Senior Ethan Ng is also in the lineup.
The teams will be back on the course on Saturday morning for the second round of action. Tee times are set to begin at 8 a.m. CT/6 a.m. PT.
