Bears Battle For Doubles Crown Sunday

SAN FRANCISCO – California men's tennis vies for some hardware at the Battle in the Bay Classic on Sunday, when veteran Yuta Kikuchi and newcomer Carl Emil Overbeck face a USC tandem in the final of the doubles main draw. The Golden Bear senior and freshman take on USC's Bradley Frye and Stefan Dostanic at 10 a.m. at the California Tennis Club.
In Saturday's semifinals, the two Bears defeated Arizona's Jonas Ziverts and Colton Smith, 8-6.
The Bears had a chance to reach another Sunday final, with Philip Hjorth riding a four-match winning streak into his singles semifinal on Saturday. The senior won the first set against USC's Frye, but he ultimately fell to the Trojan in a close match, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(7).
The annual San Francisco tournament ends on Sunday.
