Bears Complete Round Two at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – California men's golf improved three strokes over its first round on Saturday, shooting a combined 299 (+19) in the second round at Olympia Fields Country Club. The Bears currently sit in 15th with 601 (+41) strokes. Freshman Simon Kwon remains Cal's top scorer as he is tied for 43rd. The Salt Lake City native improved one stroke over Friday's total, carding a 73 (+3) today.
 
Starting on hole 10, Kwon strung together six pars in his final nine holes, but a bogey on hole nine put him at three over for the day. Redshirt sophomore Costas Panay produced a 74 (+4) on Saturday which is a three-stroke improvement over his first round score. He is now tied for 63rd with 151 (+11) strokes after collecting a team-best three birdies in the second round. Alongside Panay is redshirt freshman Tony Chen who is also in a tie for 63rd-place. His 75 (+5) strokes were a one-stroke improvement over yesterday's scorecard. The final Bear in position to score is sophomore Sampson Zheng. Zheng has 154 (+14) strokes after shooting a 77 (+7) on both Friday and Saturday.
 
Cal will compete in the third and final round on Sunday morning. Redshirt freshman Ethan Chung will get things started for the Bears at 6:30am PT and Cal will be paired with players from Arizona (14th) and Florida State (13th). North Carolina currently leads the tournament with a combined score of 561 (+1). Live stats for the final round can be found here.
