Sep 18, 2021

RIVERSIDE, Calif – Cross Country wrapped up their second meet of the season on Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational where the women took third and the men finished seventh out of 24 teams.

In the 6k race, the women picked up five PRs and tallied a team score of 109. Grace Driskill was Arizona's top finisher, placing third with a time of 20:28.4, good for a PR. She was followed by Peyton Heiden in 18th with a PR time of 20:59.1. Maddy Christopher (21:12.1), Meggie Karp (21:43.7) and Megan Bounds (22:45.9) also picked up new personal bests.

"We had a great race here at UC Riverside," said head cross country coach Bernard Lagat. "We had some really great competition today, coming third as a team, we are happy. This is going to set us up for a great race at home on October 1 at Dave Murray. We are leaving here knowing we did our best and the best is yet to come."

On the men's side, Shem Kemboi led the way with an 8k time of 24:35.2 and a 24th place finish. Following him was Timothy Kibet with a time of 25:04.6 to take 44th. Kibet along with Jeffrey Sillers (25:30.5) and Brandon Bounds (26:11.0) picked up PRs. The men finished seventh overall with a team score of 273.

"On the men's side, we were seventh out of 24 teams that were here," said coach Lagat. "We feel confident that going forward, this is a good building foundation for the things to come and we can finish even stronger at Dave Murray. A lot of people ran personal bests on both sides. Those are good steps in the right direction. We are excited to be bringing home some good performances to Arizona. Bear Down."

Next up, the Wildcats will race at home at the Dave Murray Invitational on October 1. A complete recap of the meet will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com. You can also follow @ArizonaTrack on twitter throughout the day for live updates.
