OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The California men's golf program closed out the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday, finishing in 15th place with 888 (+48) overall strokes. The Bears produced their best round of the tournament in the final round, shooting seven over par (287) as a team. Freshman Simon Kwon put together the lowest score for Cal, finishing tied for 39th with 219 (+9) strokes after shooting a 72 (+2) on Sunday morning.
Both redshirt sophomore Costas Panay and sophomore Sampson Zheng carded 71s (+1) in Sunday's final round, a team-low for the tournament. Panay finished two strokes behind Kwon (222, +11) and tied for 56th as a result. He collected four birdies today. Meanwhile, after starting the day in 74th, Zheng improved 10 spots in the standings to tie for 64th. He finished with 225 (+15) strokes. The Bears' final scorer was redshirt freshman Tony Chen. Chen opened the round in 63rd-place, but five bogeys in his final 11 holes gave him a score of 76 (+6) for the day while he finished 72nd with 227 (+17) strokes overall.

"Olympia Fields tests every facet of a player's game," Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Walter Chun said. "You must drive the ball well, control your iron, have great touch around the greens and on the greens to score well. We have to learn from our shortcomings this tournament and work over time to get better in those areas."
The Bears will be back in action October 4-5 when they head to Maidstone Club for the Hamptons Intercollegiate in East Hampton, New York.
