MADISON, Wis. – The Washington State women's golf team sits in fourth place after 18 holes of action at the 2021 Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Cougs carded 294 (+6) as a team in the tournament's opening round, as they head into tomorrow's second round in fourth overall, just three strokes shy of second place. Junior Jiye Ham led the way for WSU, as she shot an even par 72 in the first round to end her day in a tie for seventh. Ham was one of three Cougar golfers to collect three birdies in the first round.
Senior Amy Chu sits one stroke behind Ham, as the Sydney, Australia native finished the first round by carding one-over par; 73. Chu will open the second round in a tie for 14th. Freshmen Madelyn Gamble and Emily Cadwell each had a strong round in their WSU debut, as Gamble finished two-over par; 74, while Cadwell carded three-over par; 75. The Washington State freshmen duo will each open the second round of the Badger Invitational sitting inside the top-25 on the player leaderboard, as Gamble is currently in a tie for 20th and Cadwell is tied for 25th.
Senior Darcy Habgood will open the second round in a tie for 36th after carding a 76 (+4) in her first round of play. Habgood and Gamble matched Ham with three birdies each on the day. Senior Jessie Lin, who is playing as an individual at WSU's season-opening tournament, sits in a tie with Habgood for 36th, as she also shot four-over par; 76 in the first round.
Host Wisconsin sits in first place after 18 holes of play at the Badger Invitational. The Badgers enters Monday's second round at five-under par; 283. Iowa's Paula Miranda will open the second round atop the player leaderboard after carding five-under; 67 in the first round.
