Cougs are Heading to Oregon

LAST TIME OUT- COUGAR CLASSIC
WSU WOMEN
The WSU Cougar women were led by freshman Neema Kimtai who finished second overall. Kimtai was the highest finishing Coug, men or women, with a time of 20:57.4 in the women's 6k. She also led the women's team with an average mile of 5:37.2.  

Following right behind Kimtia was Sophomore Caroline Jerotich. Jerotich placed third with a time of 20:59.5 and an average mile of 5:37.8. Placing fifth was Freshman Alaina Stone Boggs who finished with a time of 21:12.6, with an average mile of 5:41.3,  being the third Coug in the top five. 

Senior Pia Richards turned in an eight overall finish with a time of 21:17.4, being the fourth Coug in the top ten. Sophomore Samantha Boyle crossed the finish line 15th with a time of 21:50.3 overall. The next Coug to finish was  Zorana Grujic who placed 22nd, posting a time of 22:15.2. Right behind Grujic was Freshman Maya Nichols in 23rd with a time of 22:15.9. 

WSU MEN
Leading the Cougar men during the 8k race was freshman Leif Swanson, who posted a time of 4:53.9 placing him 10th overall. Swanson recorded an average mile time of 4:56.6.

Next to finish for the Cougs, was Sophomore Sam Griffith with a time of 24:42.1 securing the 14th spot. Griffith had an average mile time of 4:58.1. Freshman Evan Gonzalez showed his worth placing 24th with a time of 25:10.0 with an average mile time of 5:03.7. 

Rounding out the rest of the Cougs was Freshman Isaiah Lowery recording a time of 26:05.1 placing him 40th. Sophomore Amrit Banga followed ending up in 47th with a time of 26:21.8  in and Nate Pendleton capped off the Cougar squad at 50th overall with a time of 26:36.5 

COACH PHIPPS
Discussing the women's and men's races: "I was really pleased on both sides," Phipps continued about the women's team. "Today we had some outstanding performances, some huge personal best, and was really pleased with the way the women preformed." About the men's team, "We were without quite a few of our guys, but the guys that competed today did a fantastic job. Leif Swanson, Sam Griffith and Evan Gonzalez ran extraordinarily well."  

NEXT TIME OUT-  NUTTYCOMBE INVITATIONAL/ INLAND EMPIRE CHAMPIONSHIP
WSU will be splitting squads with meets in back to back days. The Nuttycombe Invitational is hosted by Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 15th. The event is held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. Women's and Men's races start at 12:20 p.m. and 1:00 pm respectively. 
The Inland Empire Championship is hosted by Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday Oct. 16th. The event is held at Lewiston Orchards a community park. Races beginning at 10:00 a.m.

IN THE RANKINGS
The Washington State women are ranked 11th overall in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Region Week 2 coaches poll. The men's squad are ranked seventh overall in the West Region also.
