Garces Named UCLA Student-Athlete of Week, presented by Ready

Sep 21, 2021

Goalkeeper Justin Garces of the UCLA men's soccer team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for Sept. 13-19.

Garces backstopped the Bruins to a pair of critical home wins last week, as UCLA went 2-0-0 with victories over No. 14 Stanford and California in the first weekend of Pac-12 play. Garces and the Bruins conceded just one goal over the two games, including a shutout of the Cardinal. UCLA's win over Stanford was the program's first since 2013, and the weekend represented UCLA's first home sweep of the Bay Area Pac-12 schools since 2011. With Garces in net, the Bruins are 5-2-0 overall this season and have allowed one goal or fewer in their last six games.

This is Garces's first UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and of his career.
