Beavers Fall to USC, 2-1

LOS ANGELES, Calif.  – The Oregon State women's soccer team opened Pac-12 play on the road against USC in Los Angeles, Calif. on Friday, falling to the Trojans 2-1. 
 
"It's always tough to suffer a loss, especially the first one of the season," said head coach Lauren Sinacola. "We put forth a brilliant effort and are proud that we competed the entire way through. We will learn from this loss and focus on getting better this week of training." 
 
Junior Abby Schwartz put the Beavers on the board in the 14th minute of play with assists from sophomore Amber Jackson and freshman McKenna Martinez. The Trojans answered in the 22nd minute to tie the score at 1-1. For 62 minutes, Oregon State held USC to a 1-1 tie before the Trojans managed to find the net again in 84th minute. 
 
In goal, senior Bridgette Skiba recorded six saves and the Beavers notched one team save. Oregon State tallied four shots on goal out of seven shots total and took four corner kicks.
